Mooting and Advocacy Competition
Image created with Flux Pro. 1.1 Ultra
Mooting is the oral presentation of a legal issue against opposing counsel before a judge, tribunal member, or arbitrator.
It simulates the experience that law students can expect in court proceedings after qualifying as lawyers.
This practical exercise develops essential skills in legal research, critical thinking, oral advocacy, and written submissions.
Why Mooting Matters
Mooting offers numerous benefits to law students:
Develops crucial legal skills in research, analysis, and advocacy
Builds confidence in public speaking and courtroom presentation
Teaches courtroom decorum and professional etiquette
Enhances employment opportunities in the legal profession
Provides networking opportunities with legal professionals
Improves ability to think critically and respond under pressure
My Coaching Approach
My coaching approach is based on a simple pedagogy that I developed for the unit LAW4805 at Monash University.
I also adopt a whole-of-advocate approach in training advocacy to Monash LLB/JD law students, with award winning success.
I have also assisted law students studying at universities in India and Ukraine requesting coaching for international moots when Monash is not competing in those moots.
